Kylie Cosmetics Koko Kollection Review

Hey all,

It’s new year’s eve tonight! What are your plans? I don’t usually do much as I’m more than happy to sit in the comfort of my own home watching the fireworks on T.V. haha.

So, what will my last post of the year be about? Well, it’s a lipstick and lipgloss review of a makeup cosmetics line which launched earlier this year, which is by none other than Kylie Jenner!

I’m sure you have all heard of Kylie Jenner and if you haven’t, where have you been?? There’s no escaping the Jenner and Kardashian sisters! As you may well know, Kylie is part of the Kardashian family and around a year ago she started her own makeup line called Kylie Cosmetics. She went from starting off with liquid matte lipsticks which included lipliners, to eyeliners and then eyeshadows. However, more recently she collaborated with older sister Khloe Kardashian on a lip kit collection called Koko Kollection.

Swatches time!

The Koko Kollection includes 3 liquid matte lipsticks which are called Okurrr, Khlo$ and Gorge and one lipgloss which is called Damn Gina. I’ve taken swatches of the 4 colours and they’re in the following order:

This is what the colours look when wet:

And this is what they look like when they’re dry:

When the Koko Kollection launched, the kit was for $60. Not surprisingly, the collection sold out within the first 15 minutes! I wasn’t lucky enough to get the kit the first time round but I really wasn’t surprised. I follow Kylie Jenner on Snapchat and she always mentions how quick her products sell out, so I didn’t have high expectations!

However, when the kit was re-stocked, I managed to get it and on top of that, the kit had been reduced to $45! I can’t remember why, but I wasn’t complaining 😉 Delivery was $15 dollars so in total the kit cost me $60 which was about £50.

However a few weeks later, I received a postcard from Royal Mail telling me I had to pay a custom fee and a Royal Mail fee, which came to £14.51. I was not happy! I completely forget that I would have to pay a custom fee, so was very surprised to receive the postcard. This now made the delivery cost nearly £30! I’ve never paid that much for delivery before :O

What makes it worse is; my cousin bought two Kylie Jenner lip kits a few months before me I ordered mine and she was lucky enough to get away with paying a custom fee.

Staying power

3 of the 4 lipsticks (Okurrr, khlo$ and Gorge) are liquid matte lipsticks so you would ofcourse expect them to stay on for hours. Question is, do they? They certainly do, but I noticed the colour stays on longer around the edge of your lips rather than the middle, so you have to re-apply the lipstick in the areas that have come off. This is after a few hours though.

The lipsticks also have a scent to them. It’s quite a sweet smell but you can only smell it for the first few seconds after putting the lipstick on, which is good as it’s quite sweet.

Texture of the lipsticks

Staying power is all well and good, but how does the lipstick feel on? I found it gets too dry too quick and you can really feel that it is a matte lipstick due to the dry texture on your lips. With matte lipsticks there’s always a risk that the lipstick will make your lips feel really dry and unfortunately I found that with these lipsticks from the Koko Kollection. I felt I needed to put lipbalm on top to keep my lips moisturised, but then this defeats the purpose of a matte lipstick?!

Final thoughts

We now come to the end of this blog and to the end of the last blog of the year! So, was the Kylie Cosmetics collaboration with Khloe Kardashian worth investing in?

I’m in two minds about this. As you can see from the pictures, the colours are absolutely gorgeous – there’s no denying it! I stopped myself every time from buying the liquid matte lipsticks from Kylie Cosmetics, but gave in once I saw the Koko Kollection. I was worried about Khlo$ (the nude shade) as I’ve never owned a nude lipstick (never thought they would suit me!) but I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised as I liked how it looked 🙂

The packaging is so nice too. I love the rose gold on the lipsticks and lipgloss. These matte lipsticks will certainly stand out in your makeup bag!

However, with the huge delivery charge and then custom fee on top of that, I would have to say it’s not worth buying the lipsticks if you’re an international customer. Nearly every makeup brand sells matte lipsticks now and you can buy similar colours for a fraction of the price.

Price aside, I waasn’t too happy with the staying power due to the lipstick not staying on for the same amount of time on all parts of the lips. Also, it felt really dry on the lips which is a real shame.

So, there you have it – my thoughts on the Kylie Cosmetics liquid matte lipsticks! If you have any Kylie Cosmetics lipsticks or lipglosses, what do you think of them?

I’ll end the post with a video I created for my Instagram page (@keeplookingatmy). Enjoy!

Speak in the new year!
